Kevin D. Cavendish, Ph.D.

Biography

Kevin Cavendish is the 3rd President of Cherub College, having assumed the office in January 2016.

Prior to joining the College, he has also served as the Secretary-General for the United Nations Association of The Bahamas. Dr. Cavendish has served on consultation committees for the Governments of Canada and Latvia, and is the current country representative for the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Deputy Honorary Consul of Latvia in The Bahamas. As President of Cherub College, President Cavendish has improved opportunities for scholarships and financial aid for students from every background. Under his tenure, the college's endowment has also grown significantly and has allowed for the establishment of a National Workforce Scholarship Programme intended for working adults, and an Outstanding High School Scholars Programme which recognizes the best and the brightest of high school seniors. Since becoming President, Dr. Cavendish has been an outspoken advocate for increased access to higher education. As a part of his leadership vision, he plans to expand further the amount of students from low-income and first generation college student backgrounds. President Cavendish has put forward and embarked upon a strategic plan to forge new relationships with, strengthen academic programmes, and expanding options to pursue graduate level studies. In line with this, the college has seen new partnerships with other colleges and universities throughout Europe, Asia and North America. Additionally, Dr. Cavendish has led the initiative for improved state-of-the-art facilities with complete technology systems.

President Cavendish is a member of MENSA, an avid reader, enjoys exploring archaeological sites, sailing, and playing golf. Dr. Cavendish is also a licensed private pilot and enjoys exploring the different islands of The Bahamas on his spare time.

Meeting the President

President Cavendish believes that it is important to know the students and faculty on a personal level in order to provide effective leadership. Therefore, the President maintains an open-door policy. If the President is available to speak with you, he will. However, President Cavendish has set aside the first Thursday of each month from 2:30pm to 4:00pm to meet with students. In order to take advantage of these office hours, students are asked to sign up the day before, and to note that students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. These sessions allows students and the President an opportunity to meet and discuss a wide variety of subjects affecting them and the college. These sessions are not intended for students or groups to request funding, endorsement or similar requests.
